Brendon is a GP and community pharmacist in Somerset. He likes to keep fit and healthy by walking his two maltese terrier dogs, working out at the gym, playing volleyball and doing competitive events like long distance running, obstacle course races and triathlon. He enjoys whisky tasting and is known for his significant whisky collection. He and his wife Julia are expecting their first child this August. Here he tells us why he’s decided to complete the Olympic distance London Triathlon to raise money for Pharmacist Support.
I’ve only ever competed in sprint distance triathlons before; so I relish the challenge of swimming, cycling and running the same distance as the Brownlee brothers, while also raising money for a fantastic cause. It’s a bonus to be able to do it in London; cycling and running past historic landmarks, although a dip in the Royal Victoria Dock is a little daunting. I’ve been warned not to drink the water!
What hero fundraising activities have you got planned?
I will be swimming 1500m, cycling 40Km and running 10Km around the streets of central London on Sunday 5th August, 2018!
Pharmacist Support is the only charity created by pharmacists, for pharmacists and their families. I have not used the charity but having struggled with stress, financial issues and mental health in the past it is reassuring to know that they are there if I need them.
Why do you think others should join the Pharmacist Support Fundraising Hero Team?
I want to do whatever I can to raise money for and awareness of Pharmacist Support. Becoming a part of the Pharmacist Support Fundraising Hero Team means I can achieve these aims, while also challenging myself.
