Hull Pharmacists’ Association makes significant donation to Pharmacist Support

Read all about the generous donation we’ve received from Hull Pharmacists’ Association and their long history of supporting their local community.

Thank you to Hull Pharmacists’ Association for their generous donation!

Hull Pharmacists’ Association has made a considerable donation to our charity in order to show their support for our pharmacy family and give back to the profession after many years of supporting their local pharmacy community.

Andrew Hersom, President & Past Secretary, and Elizabeth Lyle, Treasurer of the association, said: “After many years of proudly championing our local pharmacy community, we’re pleased to be able to continue the legacy of Hull Pharmacists’ Association through donating our remaining financial assets to our profession’s charity. Our members were keen for the money to be used to benefit fellow pharmacists and their families as we all know people who have had mental health and physical problems during their professional lives. We believe, through the great work of Pharmacist Support, the donation will really help to make a difference.”

Hull Pharmacists’ Association was founded in 1868 as a result of the 1868 Pharmacy Act which required pharmacists to register with the (Royal) Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) based in London. At that time, pharmacists in Hull and the East Riding felt they still needed to oversee local pharmaceutical matters themselves, and therefore set up the association. Since then, the HPA has focused its efforts on connecting the local pharmacy community through monthly educational and professional meetings, social events, research grants and political lobbying.

Sadly, with the ever-changing landscape in pharmacy, not helped by the covid-19 pandemic, the committee has consulted members who have reluctantly decided the time has come to wrap up the association. Due to its long history, their records, President’s chain and bell mortar will have a home at the Treasure House Museum in the East Riding, and members kindly put a motion forward to donate their remaining financial assets to Pharmacist Support.

Speaking of the donation, Pharmacist Support’s Chief Executive, Danielle Hunt, says:

“We are incredibly grateful to Hull Pharmacists’ Association for donating their remaining financial assets to the charity. The association has had a very positive impact on the profession over the years, and this generous donation will help the charity to continue to provide support to pharmacists whilst continuing to adapt to their changing needs.”

Our charity relies on individual and corporate donations to ensure pharmacy students, trainees and pharmacists have access to free, independent and confidential support. Like many charities, Pharmacist Support has experienced fundraising challenges due to the pandemic and ongoing cost of living crisis. With the help of this generous donation, we can continue helping those who need us through our support services.

Please help us to support our pharmacy family

We will always be here to support our pharmacy family, whenever they need us. But we can't do it without you. As an independent charity, we rely on generous donations from those in the profession in order to continue our work.
