What is the Pharmacist Support National Student Bursary Scheme?
Pharmacist Support launched the National Student Bursary scheme in 2013. It exists to help 3rd year pharmacy students (4th year if doing a sandwich degree) going into their final year of study who are facing unexpected financial difficulty due to an unforeseen adversity. The limited bursary awards are for £3,000 or £5,000. To apply, students entering the final year of their MPharm degree in autumn 2023 must show that they meet the eligibility criteria.
Who is eligible for the bursary?
To be eligible for the bursary, you must meet the following criteria:
- entering your final year of studies in the autumn
- demonstrate outstanding or exceptional qualities to overcoming your ongoing adversity
- facing adverse financial hardship as a result of an unexpected or life changing event*
- an expectation by your school of pharmacy that you will make a positive and excellent contribution to pharmacy in Great Britain
- sound academic performance.
* Examples of adverse financial hardship would be students who have been victim of a crime or have lost a parent who had been supporting them financially.
How can I apply?
The Bursary Scheme will open Monday 16 January 2023
To request a bursary application form and guidance notes, please email grants@pharmacistsupport.org with evidence that you are enrolled on the 3rd year of an MPharm degree course (or 4th year if undertaking a 5 year sandwich/integrated degree). Please do not contact us until the scheme has opened, thank you.
Upon receiving your completed application form, we will contact your Head of Year or appropriate staff member (i.e. personal tutor). This is because your application will need to be supported with a signed endorsement from your pharmacy school.
The closing date for applications is Friday 20th March 2023.
Further financial support for pharmacy students
Any student enrolled on an MPharm degree course and experiencing unexpected financial difficulty is eligible to apply for a student hardship grant during the academic year. Students who are eligible to apply to the bursary scheme can also apply for a student hardship grant.
