National Student bursary scheme

Our National Bursary scheme, helping final year students experiencing financial difficulty due to an ongoing adversity.

The Pharmacist Support National Student Bursary Scheme was piloted in 2013 to help 3rd year pharmacy students (4th year if you’re doing a sandwich degree) going into their final year of study, who were facing financial difficulty and able to demonstrate qualities to overcoming an ongoing adversity and able to maintain a strong academic performance.

Launched fully for the 2014/15 academic year, we are very proud to confirm that the scheme is now in its 7th year and supported by most pharmacy schools across Great Britain.

This year we received 40 applications from students across 17 schools of pharmacy. Though Covid 19 was throwing up many challenges it was clear from the applications received that some students were facing unique individual difficulties but continued to rise above their adversity in order to pursue their dream of one day becoming a fully qualified pharmacist.

The bursary panel, again, had the incredibly difficult task of choosing from a shortlist of 15 MPharm students and eventually after much deliberation, agreed on the final 7.  Through this year’s scheme the charity has been able to support 7 individuals with an award of either £3,000 or £5000 including using their discretion to award a one off £1,500 bringing the total number of students helped through the bursary scheme to 72 and the total amount awarded to £216,500.

The bursary scheme runs alongside the charity’s student hardship grant which any student enrolled on an MPharm degree course, experiencing unexpected financial difficulty, is eligible to apply for during the academic year.  For more information on the student hardship grant click here.

Dates and the application process for the 2022 Bursary Scheme will be released in January 2022.
