Student bursary scheme

Our Bursary scheme helps final year students experiencing financial difficulty due to an ongoing adversity. Read on for more information on who is eligible and how to apply.

What is the Pharmacist Support Student Bursary Scheme?

The Pharmacist Support Student Bursary Scheme was launched in the 2014/15 academic year. We are very proud to confirm that the scheme is now in its 10th year and is supported by the pharmacy schools across Great Britain.

The purpose of the scheme is to help 3^rd year pharmacy students (4^th year if you’re doing a sandwich degree) who will be going into their final year of study. To be eligible to apply a student must be able to demonstrate qualities to overcoming an ongoing adversity, such as serious ill health or being the victim of a crime and who are as a result facing financial difficulty while still maintaining a strong academic performance.

How did it go this 2023/2024 year?

This year we received 62 applications from students in attendance at 21 of the schools of pharmacy.

Each year we receive applications from students who have experienced very challenging misfortune but who have been able to persevere and remain on track towards completing the degree. Again, the bursary panel had the incredibly difficult task of choosing from a shortlist of 17 MPharm students and eventually after much deliberation, agreed on a final 9 to receive an award. Through this year’s scheme the charity has been able to support 4 students with an award of £5000 and 5 students with an award of £3,000 (payment of the award is subject to exam success and enrolment onto final year of study).

When can I apply?

Dates and the application process for the 2024/2025 Bursary Scheme will be released early 2025.

Further financial support for pharmacy students

Any student enrolled on an MPharm degree course and actively attending university full time and who is experiencing unexpected financial difficulty is eligible to apply for a grant of upto £1,500 during the academic year. For more information on how we can help students click here
