Are you an MPharm student entering your final year of study in 2019? You might be interested in our national student bursary scheme.
The scheme, first piloted in 2014, aims to recognise and support students who demonstrate outstanding and exceptional qualities to overcome adversity, sound academic performance and who are expected by their school of pharmacy to make a positive and excellent contribution to pharmacy in Great Britain.
This year the charity received 45 applications from third year students at 17 universities, about to enter their final year of study in September and the awards panel made 16 awards totalling £27,000.
One recipient from 2015 Sabina, shares her story on how the bursary has impacted her life.
Sabina was studying at Medway School of Pharmacy (MSoP). As a dyslexic single parent, she had to juggle parental responsibilities with her studies. Despite these challenges, Sabina persevered and achieved good grades, which was recognised by the MSoP who awarded Sabina with a certificate of good performance.
“The bursary came in handy as it enabled me not to worry about money but channel all my energy into my studies to ensure successful completion of my pharmacy degree. It enabled me to provide for myself and my family and I am very grateful for this support. I am looking forward to my pre-registration year to gain the all-important hands-on experience to develop my career as a pharmacist. It is my plan to specialise in diabetes management and also train to be an independent prescriber in the near future.”
