We really couldn’t do what we do without the commitment and enthusiasm of our student volunteers. So to mark Student Volunteering Week (10-16 Feb) we decided to chat with some of our newest Student Ambassadors and delve into their reasons for getting involved. We got chatting with Joanna – a first year student at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Here she tells us her reasons for volunteering as a PS Student Ambassador and why it’s important for others to support the charity too!
Tell us a little about yourself and your Pharmacy School
I’m a first year at RGU in Aberdeen and I work part time with Boots. I love my job and I love my course. I find the course demanding but I do enjoy it, so I don’t find it much of an issue.
Why did you decide to become a Pharmacist Support Student Ambassador?
I joined because the charity fitted with my beliefs. I have hope knowing that if I’m ever in that situation and need help it will be there for me. However, if I want those facilities to be there I’ve got to support them which is exactly what I’m doing.
Why is the charity important to you?
PS is important to me because I want to help others the way I would want to be helped. This is my future career and i want to support everyone in the profession, when they need it.
What activities have you got planned?
I’m running the information stand at the BPSA Northern Area Conference at RGU. I’m also hoping to represent the charity at the BPSA Annual Conference in Birmingham this April.
Why do you think others should sign up to become PS Student Ambassadors?
I think other people need to see the benefit. This is a great opportunity to support your peers, but also for any applications in the future. Employers completing pre-reg applications recognise Pharmacist Support. Think about the support and help you want if you need it then remember the people in that situation. We are a small group that needs to support each other.
