Pharmacy students encouraged to ACTNow on University Mental Health Day
Our Student ACTNow wellbeing campaign is back to encourage pharmacy students to take immediate action to prioritise their mental health and wellbeing.
The student mental health and wellbeing crisis
Student Minds, the UK charity for student mental health, reports that 1 in 3 university students have poor mental wellbeing and 30% say their mental health has become worse since starting university. According to the report, the most common causes of stress are performing well academically, keeping up with study, managing time, managing money and juggling study with paid employment.
Our commitment to help through the Student ACTNow campaign
As the pharmacy profession’s only charity, we recognise our responsibility to provide meaningful support for the next generation of pharmacists. Alongside our core Support Services, Pharmacist Support runs annual Student ACTNow wellbeing campaigns to motivate people at university to prioritise their mental health and to provide them with the tools they need to ensure wellbeing remains a daily priority.
Like every year, this year’s Student ACTNow campaign takes place on University Mental Health Day on Thursday 12th March and encourages pharmacy students to sign up to our free charity e-newsletter to gain access to year-round support. This includes tailored resources designed to help them navigate every stage of their pharmacy career – from preparing for exams and becoming trainee pharmacists, to navigating their transition into registered pharmacy professionals, independent prescribers and beyond. As an added bonus every student who signs up by University Mental Health Day will receive an exclusive Mental Health and Wellbeing Virtual Toolbox which contains resources and guidance to tackle those common causes of stress and help to kick start their wellbeing journey.
A special thank you to our Student ACTNow campaign sponsors
Partnerships are crucial to the success of our work and we’re delighted once again to work with campaign sponsors Boots and the PDA. It is thanks to their continued support that our charity can dedicate time and resource to the development of our wellbeing resources that are shared for free as part of the campaign.
Paul Day, Director at the PDA says:
“The PDA is dedicated to supporting our members’ mental, physical and financial wellbeing while they are at university or work. The Pharmacist Support ACTNow initiative helps raise everyone’s awareness of their own wellbeing, and just as importantly that of their colleagues, so that they can take appropriate action.”
And Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots adds:
“I’m proud that again Boots is supporting Pharmacist Support’s Student ACTNow campaign, empowering future pharmacists with the tools to protect their wellbeing strengthens the entire profession. When students thrive, our wider sector will benefit too.”
We’re proud to support the next generation of pharmacists and hope universities, charity supporters and students alike will join us in championing student wellbeing now and throughout the year.
