How 13 fundraisers showed walking can make a difference

Walk for Wellbeing: 97 for 97 has raised over £5,000 to provide life-changing support for our pharmacy family. We’re celebrating the 13 fundraisers who took part and everyone who sponsored, encouraged and supported them.

Thirteen fundraisers. 97km or 97,000 steps each. Over £5,000 raised (including Gift Aid) … Walk for Wellbeing: 97 for 97 brought our pharmacy family together throughout September, with fundraisers across the country taking on the challenge and encouraging friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them, raising vital funds for Pharmacist Support.

We’re incredibly grateful to every person who took part, donated, shared a fundraising page or encouraged someone along the way. Your support helps us continue providing free and confidential support to people in our pharmacy family when they need it most. People like Sara, a hospital pharmacist who accessed our counselling, peer support and financial assistance services through an extremely difficult time … Barbara, a community pharmacist who was sleeping rough for 6 months before turning to us for support … and Bob, a retired pharmacist who we supported throughout his struggle with addiction.

More than a fundraising challenge

Walk for Wellbeing was about more than reaching a fundraising target. Walking gave people an opportunity to spend time outdoors, connect with others and make time to prioritise their own wellbeing alongside busy lives.

For some, that meant fitting extra walks around work. For others, it meant joining colleagues, friends or fellow pharmacy professionals and working towards a shared goal. Our fundraisers showed just how many different ways there are to take part and how something as simple as walking can bring people together.

The Royal College of Pharmacy's Retired Pharmacist Group took on an amazing 97km each for their challenge!

Danielle Hunt, Chief Executive at Pharmacist Support, says:

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Walk for Wellbeing, and to everyone who supported them. We know that life and work in pharmacy can bring significant pressures, and looking after our own wellbeing is so important. It has been wonderful to see our pharmacy family come together, support one another and raise vital funds to help us be there for those who need us.”

Your support makes a difference

Every donation raised through Walk for Wellbeing: 97 for 97 helps us continue our work supporting people working and studying in the pharmacy profession through difficult times.

Whether someone needs someone to talk to, specialist advice about their finances or access to counselling and other wellbeing support, your generosity helps make sure they have somewhere to turn.

If you’ve been meaning to sponsor one of our fundraisers, there’s still time to donate before the campaign closes completely. Every donation, no matter the size, will help us continue to be there for the people who need us.

Pharmacist Support ambassador and fundraising extraordinaire, Shilpa, said as a profession that spends the majority of its time supporting the health and wellbeing of others, their own health and wellbeing is often overlooked.

What’s next?

Walk for Wellbeing: 97 for 97 may be over for this year, but we hope the connections, conversations and wellbeing habits it encouraged will continue beyond September.

We’re already looking ahead to how we can build on this year’s campaign and bring our pharmacy family together again through Walk for Wellbeing in 2027.

Thank you to everyone who made the fundraising challenge possible. Every mile walked, every conversation started and every pound raised has helped show the 97% of people who say they need our support that they are not alone.
