Esther Sadler-Williams is a retired pharmacist and also a proud trustee of Pharmacist Support.  We caught up with her to find out what  Hero Challenge she is taking on for #GoGreenPS.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Throughout my working life I have had the opportunity to work across most spheres of pharmacy, community, hospital, industry and academia, and now in my ‘semi-retirement’ from work I can support those in our profession who are in need.

Why did you decide to become a Pharmacist Support Fundraising Hero?

Every year I am inspired by the London Marathon, as well as the sporting achievements of many who take up a challenge during the year.  My children Robert (33) and Charlotte (28) lead active lives where fitness and sports are integral to their well-being.  For me this is more of a challenge, but I wanted us to do something together as a family.  Having had a special birthday last year this could be our last opportunity, and what better cause to do it for.

What hero fundraising activities have you got planned?

Well……. we had to think about what we could do.  There is no way I could run a marathon, but I do enjoy walking and swimming and swim at a local pool most weeks.  So a triathlon seemed like a good idea, however I was certainly not up for donning a wet suit and swimming in a lake!  Help was at hand, The North West Triathlon is for beginners, has an outdoor pool and it’s possible to do this as a relay team – perfect!  Now we had to decide who would do the 21km bike ride as apposed to the 5km run – my son lost!  The event is on Sunday 22nd September in Nantwich, so training is well underway.

Why is Pharmacist Support important to you?

It’s really important that this unique charity is there to support pharmacists and their families when they need it most.  Pharmacists spend their lives helping others and to have the charity there to help them when things are tough, is critical.

Why do you think others should join the Pharmacist Support Fundraising Hero team?

We never know what is around the corner, and when difficulty might strike.  If you can help, then do it in whatever small way you can.  Every little helps!
