Spiced Biscuits Recipe

Why not try these lovely lightly spiced, crisp biscuits, perfect for serving with a nice cup of tea.  Why not ask your colleagues to donate 50p per biscuit or £2 for five!

Prep Time 40 mins, cooking time 10 mins

Serves 20 – skill Easy

Ingredients for the biscuits

150g butter

150g brown sugar

175g condensed milk

1 egg

175g plain flour

115g self-raising flour

1tsp mixed spice

Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

For the Toppings

Coloured icing tubes and confectionery to decorate


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degree c, Fan 160 degree c Gas mark 4. Line baking trays with grease proof paper
  2. Beat the butter, sugar and condensed milk together until creamy. Add the egg (don’t worry if it looks like it is curdling), beat well and then add the flours.  Mix to a firm dough and cover inkling film then refrigerate for 30mins.
  3. Roll the dough out on floured surface to the thickness of a pound coin. Cut shapes out
  4. Transfer the biscuit shapes to the baking trays and bake for 10 mins until light golden in colour. Cool completely on a wire rack.  Ice and decorate the biscuits.
