Student Ambassador Profile-Jennifer Adam

Jennifer is a 4th year student at the University of Strathclyde.  She became a PS Student Ambassador back in November 2017 and she and Strathclyde Pharmacy Society have been busy holding fundraisers for PS  since then. We grabbed her for a chat to discuss why she’s raising awareness and much needed funds for the charity at her Uni.

Tell us a little about yourself and your Pharmacy School

I’m a Year 5 (or 4th year) pharmacy student.  I enjoy mountain biking, camping, hill walking and trips with my dog.  Previously I raised money for Combat Stress and raised £311 walking half of the West Highland Way with my German shepherd, Isla (only completing half due to the dog getting a sore leg!).  At University, I am part of the Graduation Ball committee and Pharmacy society.

I enjoy being part of the Pharmacy School as it provides loads of support and lecturers get to know you as a person and not a number on an exam paper.  Due to being a relatively small cohort, everyone on the course gets to know each other which is great!

Why did you decide to become a Pharmacist Support Student Ambassador?

Having a family member who was involved in a serious accident last year, I realised how quickly things can change.  Fortunately, they were able to return to a normal life after 6 months.  However, I realsied that not everyone is as lucky.  So by becoming a PS Student Ambassador, I know that I am helping someone somewhere who has experienced something similar and are unable to work.

What hero fundraising activities did you do and what have you got planned?

Through the Pharmacy Society we have raised funds at a careers night, a Christmas bake sale and raffle and through a Murder Mystery night.  We are planning our next events at the moment and hope to announce them soon!

Why is the charity important to you?

PS is there for both pharmacists and pharmacy students.  In particular, the charity is important to me as they help to support students  who are struggling.  Also, PS provides someone to talk to whenever I may need it – as University and personal lives can be stressful.  It’s reassuring to know that I have somewhere to turn if I ever need it.

Why do you think others should sign up to become PS Student Ambassadors?

Being a PS Student Ambassador is rewarding in that you know you are helping someone else who needs it.  By becoming a PS Student Ambassador, you are able to raise awareness of the charity within the University as not everyone is aware that PS also supports students.  By doing this, you may help others who need someone to talk to, require financial support or inspire someone who would also like to help PS and become a Student Ambassador too!
