Student Ambassador Profile – Iqra Amin

Iqra is a 3rd year pharmacy Student at Newcastle University.  Newcastle Pharmacy School is a new addition to the list of Pharmacy Schools having been relocated from Durham University.  Here Iqra tells us all about why she wanted to volunteer for Pharmacist Support and what plans she and her fellow Student Ambassadors have to help raise awareness and funds up in Newcastle.

Tell us a little about yourself and your Pharmacy School

The course at Newcastle University is amazing and although I love it, it can get stressful at times, but the aim is to keep going.  The course itself provides an excellent opportunity to be ready for the ‘real world’, with a wide range of skills covered, including clinical and lab-based skills.

Why did you decide to become a Pharmacist Support Student Ambassador?

When the post was originally released I didn’t know much about Pharmacist Support.  However, after reading about the charity and looking at it’s social media I thought it was an amazing organisation, carrying out excellent work.  I immediately thought that this charity is available to support student pharmacists such as myself, practicing pharmacists and retired pharmacists, so I felt a responsibility to participate to help others in the same profession.

What fundraising activities have you got planned?

Our committee is planning to hold a Cake Bake, a ‘The Chaser – Students V’s Lecturers night and movie nights!

Why is the charity important to you?

Pharmacist Support is important to me as it supports pharmacy professionals regardless of their situation.  Looking at the work that the charity provides and after attending an event it was clear to see that they offer support that can change the future of pharmacists.

Why do you think others should sign up to become PS Student Ambassadors?

Pharmacist Support is an excellent charity to be part of, and being a pharmacy student you have the opportunity to support other pharmacy students and pharmacists in their time of need.  It is an amazing way to give back to the community, and the staff at Pharmacist Support provide you with all the resources to do this and they support you massively!
