It’s been challenge-tastic these past couple of months at Pharmacist Support and we would like to take this opportunity to recognise the tremendous efforts of our fundraising heroes who have run marathons, jumped out of planes and climbed mountains for us so far in 2017. Together they have traveled a distance of 92 miles for the charity and raised over £7,500 for Pharmacist Support!
Waving on our seafront runners!
Kicking things off, on Sunday 9th April was the 2017 Brighton Marathon. There, two eager students from Brighton University – Olamiji Susan and Michael – joined masses of runners for the 26+ mile circuit through parks, the famous lanes and onto the seafront promenade. This dynamic duo didn’t just commit to this lengthy run however – oh no! In the build up to their challenge, they got creative – distributing red roses on Valentine’s Day and recruiting in the services of professional hairdressers for some classic cuts in return for donations to boost their fundraising efforts. The pair were also delighted to receive the support of the RPS Retired Pharmacist Group who not only donated to their fundraising page, but joined the Team PS cheering squad on the day for what turned out to be an incredibly hot run on the south coast – some may say sunstroke hot hey Emma Peate!
Just a week later our fearless Chief Executive (Diane) and Fundraiser (Emma) were joined by Pharmacist Support volunteer Ambassador and fundraiser Kathryn Murray for a journey like no other! For their challenge this threesome decided to jump out of a plane, 10,000ft from the ground to raise money for the charity. The gang headed to Langar airfield in Nottingham in the early hours of Pharmacist Support’s 176th Birthday – 15th April 2017. Despite their nerves they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience raising a combined £3,400 for PS. Amazing achievement girls!
A dab hand at the home town Marathon
Then on Sunday 23rd April came the daddy of all runs – the world famous Virgin Money London Marathon! This year we were delighted to have secured a much sought after charity place in one of the most popular marathon’s in the world and brave runner, Aamer Safdar, was the applicant selected to take the reins. Following months of hard training, several new pairs of running shoes, kilos of pasta, lots of twitter action and a dab at the halfway point, Aamer passed the finish line in an incredible 4 hours and 48 minutes!
Supporting from the sidelines were family, friends, colleagues and students who formed a Team PS cheering squad at RPS HQ – who kindly donated the space for the afternoons festivities. Also supporting the event were Chemist & Druggist Magazine who sponsored refreshments on the day. The sheer volume of runners supporting the work of charities across the country was truly inspiring and the carnival atmosphere made for an extremely enjoyable day. Aamer raised over £3500 for our profession’s charity, and we can’t thank him enough for all of his hard work, support and dedication. We DAB you sir!
Reaching new heights
As we entered May another of our charity Ambassador’s (Faiza) took on a challenge – that of conquering the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon. Faiza smashed her fundraising target and raised £400 for Pharmacist Support. Despite a fall on her way down the mountain she has assured us she enjoyed the experience and would do it again!
We want to say a HUGE thanks to all of our fundraisers and those that supported them. You have given us some truly inspirational fundraising moments! If you have been inspired to take on a challenge of your own then why not take a look at our Events and Challenges page and sign up today!
