National Salt Awareness Week takes place from 11 to 17 March. This year’s theme is ’Less salt please’ and it aims to show people how to use less salt without compromising on taste.
It would seem that we generally eat too much salt, usually through no fault of our own. It occurs naturally in a variety of food such as milk, cream and eggs, and not so naturally in restaurants, take-away outlets and fast food venues. Pharmacists are ideally placed to support this campaign and Consensus Action on Salt and Health are offering a variety of posters, leaflets and fact sheets to help with promotion. Orders should be made via their website and the deadline for ordering printed material is 16 February.
